The Art of Everyday Routine

Home, Travel, Food & the Rituals

It is there in the morning light falling across the kitchen table, in a scent we know by heart, in a street we have walked a hundred times, in the few unremarkable minutes before leaving the house or while waiting for the water to boil.

We eat, we sleep, we move through the world.

Then we repeat.

Much of it happens almost automatically — on autopilot, half awake. How many moments of truly conscious life remain in an ordinary day? How many remarkable things go unnoticed along the same familiar routes, within days that seem to resemble one another?

Another alarm in the morning. Another breakfast. A quick dose of dopamine online. Then the day fills with tasks, responsibilities, and obligations, interrupted by brief pauses for hobbies, friends, or special occasions.

And yet, much of life takes place in this quiet in-between.

These moments rarely seem significant enough to remember. They are not milestones, achievements, or events worth marking on a calendar. Yet together, they form the texture of our lives.

I choose to notice them.

This, to me, is the art of everyday routine.
